Heroin Addiction Treatment Program in Charlotte
Healing the Mind, Body & Spirit from Heroin Abuse in an Outpatient Setting
Heroin is a drug notorious for its overdose potential, because there is a thin line between the dose it takes to get high and a lethal dose. Derived from natural substances such as the opium-producing poppy plant, heroin is in the same family as prescription opiate drugs. This commonly abused drug is often the next step opioid users take to get high when their pills no longer produce the same rush. In fact, as many as 80% of those who abuse heroin were formerly prescription opioid users who use heroin as a last resort.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), there was a six-fold increase in fatal heroin overdoses between 20001, when 10,000 individuals died from heroin overdoses every year, on average. Heroin is extremely potent and overdoses are so common that it is often the final stage of heroin abuse.
Don’t become a statistic. At October Road, we use an outpatient approach to treat drug addiction. Our holistic program serves to treat the whole individual rather than just stamp out their addiction. We help recovering addicts find the resolve to recover from heroin addiction so you can reap the benefits of sobriety. We can help you control and cope with drug cravings and quell the impulse to seek drugs.
You don’t have to hit rock bottom to seek help, because there is no such thing as a safe path for heroin use. Rock bottom could very well be a lethal overdose. To learn more about our outpatient heroin treatment program in Charlotte, please call (833) 993-1914 or contact us online.
What Makes Heroin So Dangerous?
Addicts keep using heroin because they enjoy the rush of intense euphoria that comes from injecting it. By doing so, the opioid receptors in the brain are ignited, causing the brain to feel enormous pleasure as dopamine flood the system. Eventually, the user’s brain is completely unable to produce more dopamine, and they can no longer get high. This creates the perfect storm for a lethal dose of heroin. What’s worse, heroin is very rarely pure. It is often mixed with substances such as sugar, laundry detergent, talcum powder, flour, baking soda, or even rat poison. These extremely dangerous additives can trick the user into thinking they need more, making it very difficult to “dose” heroin. Consequences of long-term heroin use include altered brain cells as the drug deteriorates the part of the brain used to make decisions and regulate behavior.
Lighting the Path to Lifelong Sobriety
October Road is an outpatient heroin treatment program in Charlotte and Asheville, and we help those who want to get clean do so in a safe, effective way. While it’s uncomfortable to face withdrawal and to enter rehab, we can make the process less frightening. Our compassionate, highly trained staff help patients with the gold standard medication-assisted therapy for heroin addiction: methadone. Medication-assisted therapy is designed to last for 1 year rather than a lifetime of maintenance, as we seek to help recovering addicts learn how to controls their cravings on their own once the heroin is out of their systems.
Outpatient drug rehab is not for everyone. Some find that outpatient heroin treatment is best when they have already been through a residential treatment program, which has more stringent guidelines and keeps you away from harmful influences and temptations. Outpatient rehab may be a good option for you if you don’t face daily temptation to use drugs, and if you have a strong support system. You may also be a good candidate for outpatient rehab if you want to continue going to work and/or school in the midst of treatment.
