North Carolina Addiction Recovery Programs

Sometimes the best advice comes from someone who has already gone through, or is currently going through, a struggle similar to your own. Peer support services at October Road are programs designed by and administered by people who are recovering from their own substance use disorder. These people have maintained their sobriety for some time and can offer insights and empathy that others may not be able to provide. The members of our Peer Support Staff are certified as North Carolina Peer Support Specialists and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the services we provide.

A peer worker takes on many jobs, including:

  • Advocating for people in recovery
  • Helping patients set realistic goals
  • Training patients on important life skills
  • Educating family members and support people about addiction
  • Developing programs and resources for addiction recovery
  • Leading support groups
  • Sharing their skills and stories with others

Peer Support Specialists receive direct supervision from licensed and clinical staff. Their roles find them in everything from basic treatment services to more complex and specialized programs tailored to the individual.

Trained & Certified Professionals

Becoming a peer support worker is an involved task. These are people who found a lot of value in their treatment and wanted to provide that same benefit to someone else. Peer workers are trained in several core competencies that serve as a solid foundation for administering advice and treatment to others in recovery.

A core competency is the capacity to easily perform a role or function. Think of it as a skill needed to accomplish a task that a peer worker has mastered. These skills can help a person with work, school, personal hobbies, sports activities, and more.
