All About Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs

When you are facing a substance use disorder, sometimes the best option is inpatient care at a rehabilitation center. Other times, you need more options.

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) can allow you to honor the commitments in your life while receiving the care you need to overcome substance use disorder. Each program has different benefits, but overall, these alternative treatment options allow you to pursue recovery without putting other aspects of your life on hold.

Many people appreciate PHP and IOP because the programs give them the opportunity to spend time with their families, maintain gainful employment, and get sober simultaneously. PHP and IOP are also options when individuals finish an inpatient program and need help transitioning to everyday life.

No matter what you are looking for, October Road has a program for you.

Benefits of Our Partial Hospitalization Program

While our PHP does not lend quite as much structure as inpatient care, recovery will still occupy most of your day. With weekday hours from 9 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m., it’s almost like going to “recovery school,” or completing a shift at work. After therapy sessions and group counseling, you can practice applying the strategies you learned at home.

PHP is popular for those who need more support but cannot leave their lives behind for months at a time, nor explain extended absences to those around them. The program is also helpful for those coming out of residential treatment and those who are struggling with a relapse. Patients have access to medical care for withdrawal and other physical symptoms, individual and group therapy to promote health, and education as a tool to beat addiction.

Benefits of Our Intensive Outpatient Programs

At October Road, you can choose daytime or evening IOP. Both options meet for about 3 hours, 3 times per week. IOP allows some people to seek recovery while working full time and focuses on balancing inpatient care with outpatient support. For many, an IOP is the final stage of recovery, and for newcomers, IOP has higher retention rates than traditional outpatient care. IOP is all about building connections and applying what you are learning in recovery to your everyday life. It also takes away the hurdle of 24-hour or all-day treatment programs without sacrificing your sense of commitment to recovery.

Our IOP services are also available virtually.

How Do I Choose the Best Treatment Option?

Recovery looks different for everyone, so you will need to consider which option is best for you. If you need help deciding, you can always talk to our committed staff.

For each of our programs, admission begins with an assessment and individualized treatment plan. Maybe you will start with an inpatient program and transition into PHP and IOP. Maybe you need to stay at work and an evening IOP will better meet your needs.

In any case, October Road is here to help. Our evidence-based treatment methods work, and we are constantly evolving based on previous client outcomes and advice.
